Scholze comes from a theatrical family. Hildegard and her grandparents Schirrmeister Heinz Scholze were actors. Her mother is actress Sabine Scholze at the Hans Otto Theatre in Potsdam and her father Jürgen May and her four and a half years older sister Caroline Scholze and her husband Thorsten Grasshoff are also in the profession.

After graduating from high school in Brandenburg an der Havel Scholze completed training at the University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig.

Scholze was known as an actress for her role as daughter of the coroner Robert Kolmaar in the television series The Last Witness, for which she received as a young actress in 1998 with the Telestar. Meanwhile, she has worked for both film and television and in theaters. She played in the season from 2002 to 2003 at the Schauspielhaus Leipzig a major role in Quizoola in 2003 in the theater satire A test shot for the Freischutz and 2003 to 2004 at the Hans Otto Theatre Potsdam Cordelia 'in King Lear by William Shakespeare.
